Getting those darn kids to practice!
- Set a consistent practice time—schedule a time that your children will practice every day & stick to it.
- Create a good atmosphere—Make sure practice time is free of distractions and criticism.
- Be a fan—Take time to LISTEN to what your children are playing, cheer them on. Have your children perform for the family if they’re willing.
- Be informed—Know what songs your children are working on, what concepts their teacher is trying to help them master. Ask questions!
- Be involved—Sit down with your children and help them learn good practice habits. If you’re not sure what habits they need, ask the teacher!
- Help foster a love of music—Listen to piano music played by great pianists; go to concerts; buy music they’re excited to play; help your children get excited about being part of the world of musicians.
